Dr Islah Jad is Associate Professor in Gender, Development and Cultural Studies at Birzeit University where she began teaching in 1984. She also taught at Qatar University from 2014-2017. She is a founding member of the Women’s Studies Institute at Birzeit University and its MA programme.
She has written books and papers on the role of women in politics, the Islamist women’s movement, women’s movements and NGOs and feminism in the global south. She is the author of Palestinian Women’s Activism: Nationalism, Secularism, Islamism (2018) and is the co-author of the UN’s Arab Development Report on Women’s Empowerment.
