Kamil El-Tayeb Idris Kamil is a Sudanese politician serving as Sudan’s 16th Prime Minister since 2025. He was Director General of WIPO (1997–2008) and Secretary-General of UPOV. Educated in Sudan, Egypt, Switzerland and the US, he joined WIPO in 1982 and later entered Sudanese politics, running as an independent in 2010. His books include My Nile Odyssey (2017), Intellectual Property – A Power Tool For Economic Growth (2003), JASTA and a Third World War (2017), and Sudan’s Marshall Plan (2025). He is an Honorary Fellow at Durham University and Honorary Professor of Law at Peking University. His honours include the Order of Oman (2004), the Venice Award for Intellectual Property (2004) and honorary doctorates from Khartoum, Gezira and other universities.
