Dr Emile Badarin is an interdisciplinary author and researcher specialising in Middle East studies, international relations, colonial and settler colonial studies, the Question of Palestine and the politics of recognition. He holds a PhD in Middle East Politics from the University of Exeter, where he serves as an Honorary Research Fellow. His most recent book, Recognition Politics in Settler Colonial States: Normalizing Dispossession and Elimination in Palestine (2025), advances an original theoretical argument that international recognition politics functions as a mechanism of colonial reproduction rather than emancipation. His first book,Palestinian Political Discourse: Between Exile and Occupation (2016), offers a critical analysis of Palestinian political thought since the Nakba of 1948. His research has been published in impactful international peer-reviewed journals, including Third World Quarterly, Foreign Policy Analysis and European Security among others. His current research explores the colonial politics of hunger, conditional international recognition as a technology of colonial power and geopolitical realignments in the Middle East.
